The Mast of Freedom

Erected in 2014 in the form of a 60-metre flag mast, the monument is located in the western part of AK "Radosław" Group Roundabout (rondo Zgrupowania AK "Radosław") in Warsaw and commemorates, among others, Fighting Poland and the Warsaw Uprising. It is the highest flag mast in Poland and supports the largest national flag in Poland.
The Mast was erected on the initiative of Artur Nowakowski and Bogdan Kaczmarek, who also funded the project.
The location of the Mast was selected because AK "Radosław" Group Roundabout is the place where three Warsaw boroughs meet in which fighting was conducted during the Warsaw Uprising i.e. Śródmieście (City Centre), Wola and Żoliborz.
The Mast with its flag hoisting mechanism (on top) is around 63 m high, which represents the number of days of the Warsaw Uprising. The structure weighs nearly 40 tons.
The Polish national flag was raised on the Mast of Freedom for the first time on 10 November 2014.
The Mast of Freedom supports an electrically hoisted national flag with the surface of 100 m?. The Polish national flag emblazoned with the symbol of Fighting Poland is raised on the Mast on 1 August each year and is displayed for 63 days, i.e. the duration of the Warsaw Uprising. For the remaining 302 days of each year the Mast displays the regular national flag.
